| Jane Desotelle will be speaking on “Fall Time Wild Mushrooms, Vegetables, and Fruits of the Adirondack Region” In Jane's words... About Me Since 1978, I have been collecting wild herbs for herbal teas, wild foods, catnip toys, balsam wreaths, and more in the Adirondack region of way upstate NY. I give lectures and power point presentations on these topics to a wide variety of groups. At my home in Brainardsville an area is dedicated to the Adirondack Botanical Sanctuary where I lead plant appreciation walks where I teach you how to identify plants, how and when to collect them ethically, and how to use plants in your daily life. It was my pleasure to be a founding member in 1990, and now Executive Director of the Adirondack Farmers' Market Cooperative, Inc. that sponsors a number of farmers' markets in northeastern NY. I have been honored to have received the following awards from area organizations I greatly respect. The Hummingbird Foundation presented me with an award for community work. Traditional Artists of Upstate New York (TAUNY) presented me with their North Country Heritage Award in 2007, which honors a variety of living treasures in our region who show "evidence of traditionality, mastery, and creative commitment to their artform over time and a commitment to their community and the teaching of others." |
